Sport Massage

Session Length: 45–60 minutes

Sport massage is a hands-on, targeted therapy designed to support muscle function, mobility, circulation, and recovery. It works directly with the soft tissues to address areas of tension, restriction, or compensation that may be affecting how your horse moves and performs.

Each session considers the whole body, how muscles are working together, and how patterns of tension may be influencing movement, posture, or behaviour — rather than focusing on isolated areas.

What’s Included in Every Sport Massage Session

  • Targeted soft tissue and muscle work
  • Individualised stretching program, selected specifically for your horse
  • In-session stretch demonstrations, with clear, practical guidance so you can confidently support your horse between appointments
  • Integrated Photonic Therapy (Red & Blue Light), where beneficial

Individualised Stretching Support (Included)

Stretching is a core part of every sport massage session — not an optional extra.

All stretches are selected based on your horse’s assessment findings, movement patterns, and areas of restriction or compensation. Time is taken during the session to demonstrate each stretch and explain its purpose, so you understand what it supports, why it matters, and how to apply it safely between visits.

This allows you to continue supporting your horse’s comfort, mobility, and movement outside of scheduled treatments.

Reassurance for you:
If you’re unsure about stretches or worried about “doing it wrong,” there’s no pressure to remember everything or perform them. The goal is to empower you — not overwhelm you — so you can support your horse with confidence and ease.

Benefits of Sport Massage:

  • Improves muscle flexibility and range of motion
  • Encourages relaxation and nervous system regulation
  • Supports recovery from training, competition, or workload changes
  • Helps identify areas of restriction or imbalance early
  • Assists in maintaining comfort, soundness, and longevity

What to Expect in a Session:

  • Initial observation, conformational assessment and discussion about your horse’s workload, history, and any current concerns
  • Hands-on assessment of muscle tone, symmetry, and movement patterns
  • A tailored sport massage treatment guided by what your horse’s body is presenting on the day
  • Appropriate stretches applied and demonstrated where beneficial
  • Ongoing education and recommendations to support your horse between sessions

Suitable for:

  • Performance and competition horses
  • Horses in regular work
  • Young horses starting training
  • Older horses needing support with comfort and mobility
  • Horses returning to work after time off

Photonic Therapy (Red & Blue Light)

Included in all treatments

Photonic Therapy uses specific wavelengths of infrared & red and blue light to support the body at a cellular level. This therapy is integrated into sessions where appropriate, based on assessment findings and what your horse presents with on the day.

Photonic therapy is used intentionally to complement hands-on work and support tissue health, recovery, and overall comfort.

Benefits of Photonic Therapy:

  • Supports muscle and soft tissue recovery
  • Encourages healthy circulation
  • Assists the body’s natural healing processes
  • Helps manage inflammation and tissue stress
  • Supports comfort during periods of increased workload or recovery

This therapy is included as part of your horse’s personalised treatment plan and is applied where beneficial.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology taping is used to provide ongoing support between sessions by assisting muscles, fascia, and soft tissues as your horse moves. The tape works with the body, offering gentle guidance without restricting movement.

Application is always based on individual assessment findings and is never applied routinely or as a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

How Kinesiology Taping Supports Your Horse

Kinesiology tape may be used to:

  • Support muscles that are under strain or overworking
  • Assist areas of instability or compensation
  • Encourage more efficient movement patterns
  • Support postural awareness and body coordination
  • Reduce ongoing load through affected tissues

The goal is not to “hold” the body in place, but to support the horse as they move, adapt, and rebalance naturally.

When Taping May Be Recommended

Taping may be beneficial:

  • During periods of increased training or competition
  • For horses returning to work after time off
  • When managing ongoing tension, asymmetry, or compensation
  • As added support between bodywork sessions
  • When a horse is adapting to changes in workload or environment

Tape selection and placement are chosen specifically for your horse, their movement patterns, and the outcome being supported.

What to Expect with Kinesiology Taping

  • Assessment of posture, movement, and soft tissue function
  • Thoughtful selection of taping technique and placement
  • Clear explanation of what the tape is supporting and why
  • Aftercare guidance, including how long the tape may remain in place

Taping is always used as part of a broader support plan and may be combined with sport massage and photonic therapy where appropriate.

Why This Matters

When used intentionally, kinesiology taping can extend the benefits of treatment beyond the session itself, providing subtle, ongoing support as your horse moves through their day-to-day work.

Personalised & Tailored Treatment Plans

Every horse is treated as an individual, with sessions guided by careful assessment and observation — not by a set formula or pre-selected service.

Rather than choosing a single treatment, your horse’s care is shaped around:

  • Postural and movement assessment
  • Palpation findings
  • Current workload, training, or competition schedule
  • Age, history, and previous injuries or areas of concern

Sessions may include a combination of sport massage, photonic therapy, and kinesiology taping, based on what your horse’s body is communicating on the day.

Comprehensive Exercise & Conditioning Plans (Included)

As part of your horse’s tailored care, a fully comprehensive exercise plan may be provided at no additional cost where appropriate.

These plans are designed to support your horse between sessions and may include:

  • Ridden exercises
  • In-hand work
  • Pole work
  • Targeted stretches

Exercises are selected to align with your horse’s current needs, comfort level, and workload, helping to reinforce treatment outcomes and encourage balanced, confident movement.

Plans are practical, adaptable, and designed to fit into your existing routine — not add unnecessary pressure or complexity.
